Rushbrooke getting ready for the season ahead.

Although Rushbrooke hold a very popular tennis tournament at Easter time, for all those involved the season is really only about to start.
This year it kicks off with the FDC Senior Championships of County Cork from the 11th to the 18th of July. This event traditionally brings out big numbers with some excellent tennis on display for the week.

The Junior Open starts immediately after the senior and runs from the 19th to the 25th of July. This should see the best juniors from around Munster participate in the hope of winning one of the big titles.
You would think then that the tennis committee would have enough after that, but no they are only half way through.

Again this year there will be an under 18 ITF Junior World Ranking event held here and it runs from the 27th to the 31st of July. This should like years past provide some fabulous tennis for everyone to see, and have juniors travelling from as far a field as the USA.

To finish off the summer season, this year for the first time Rushbrooke will host an under 14 European tour event from the 3rd to the 7th of August. These really are the stars of the future and are the best that Europe has to offer.
For any tennis fans out there Rushbrooke really is the place to be this summer.

Argideen Vale Open

Argideen Vale open was recently on and for those of you who have had the pleasure of playing it before will know it is a unique event. The place is a hidden treasure and is played on real grass courts. It is located in West Cork, not far from Timoleague, and is always well worth a trip.
The work that goes into the courts each year is a credit to the members and the hospitality shown to all guests is second to none.
I hope the event is a great success.

Munster Junior Finals Day.

I have to say I was to delighted to be able to attend the finals day,in Rushbrooke on Saturday, of Munster's finest juniors. There were 3 age categories, ranging from u-12 to u-16 and then 3 plate events for the same ages.
The matches started at 10am and ran right through the day, with some very close and competitive matches.
To give credit where it's due I watched an u-12 mixed doubles match between Emily Daly and Ben Rasmussen of Rushbrooke and Kathy O Neill and Sean O Callaghan of Sundays Well and honestly I haven't seen a better game of doubles anywhere this year and that includes senior tournaments also.
Not only was the tennis of the highest standard but the manner in which not just this game was played is a credit to all who took part. These u-12 children applauded each others good shots and played with a smile on their faces that was lovely to see.
I look forward to watching their progress in the years ahead!
Congratulations to the organisers and all who took part on the day.
