St.Michaels Open Vets
St. Michaels Vets Open was held on the 21st to 24th of May and was a huge success with 72 entrants from Cork city and county and Tipperary.
The main sponsor of the event was Global Life & Finance and the printing was supplied by PrintPro.
The weather was super for the 4 days and this reflected the standard of tennis.
Some top players featured included Liam O Brien, Robert Murphy, Joanne Williamson, Conor Twomey, Joe O Donovan, Pat Smith, Connie Creed and Ann Naughton.
The facilities and catering were very impressive with the novel idea of ball boys and girls for the final going down well with all the players. Everyone was watered and well fed and a free barbecue, sponsored by Club Captain Robert Murphy, was held on Saturday night which many enjoyed.
A highlight on finals day was that the prizes were presented by former President of Tennis Ireland and Honorary member of the club Mrs Rhoda McAuliffe.
The tournament was thought to have being a huge success mainly due to the homely atmosphere in the club, and hopefully as a result of this 2010 will have a bigger entry.

Future Stars showing their Skills
Anyone who has time on their hands on Saturday the 30th of May and is looking for something to do, it would be well worth a spin to Rushbrooke tennis club as the Munster team finals for the u-12, u-14 and u-16 events are taking place.
There promises to be some excellent tennis and the possibility of seeing some of our future stars in action.

The Sports Village
Just in case anyone doesn't know yet the Tennis Village has re-opened as the Sports Village, albeit on a smaller scale but after a recent visit there and a chat with the manager tennis is very high on his list of priorities.
The centre now has 2 indoor cement courts and 3 outdoor omni courts aswell as 2 indoor 5 aside soccer pitches, a childrens play area and aerobic studios.
I wish the centre all the best and welcome back a badly missed tennis facility.
For more details check out their website:

Season so far
Well as promised Rushbrooke had the best of the weather again this year for what proved to be a very successful tournament with record entries.
Finals day was a very enjoyable day with plenty of spectators enjoying the good weather and adding greatly to the atmosphere.
If this didn't wet the apetite for the year ahead nothing will.
Bishopstown followed on from this and with 15 events run over the course of the week it looks as though tennis is alive and well.
Next up on the senior calender is Douglas singles running from the 17th of May to the 24th of May, any information is available on 021-4294037.
